An investigation of a mixture of coconut husk and rice husk as activated carbon for treatment of wastewater

Abstract Malaysia’s population has rapidly developed every year, with considerable waste were produced. It caused a severe effect on the surroundings and reduced quality of water surface bodies. Thus, significant improvement been implemented to increase wastewater effluent combat environmental issues. This research evaluates activated carbon performance from rice husk coconut reduce pollutants in effluent. The was collected at treatment plant UiTM Dengkil. In this study, characteristics analysed. Later, (AC) produced using chemical agent ZnCl 2 divided into six batches experiments. experiment observed two weeks, results have examined for percentage nitrate-nitrogen, nitrite-nitrogen, ammonia-nitrogen, phosphorus, E. Coli . For batch AC mixed husk, removal is 87%, 79%, 54%, 95%, 100%, respectively. found that mixture significantly effective removing all pollutants. can be deduced improved fulfilled limitation set Standard Environmental Quality (Sewage), 2009.
